Children’s Center «Lighthouse»
Children’s Center Tähetorn (Lighthouse) is a non-governmental organization, the purpose of which is to support development of children who are from low-income families and create them safe environment for spending their free time. Children’s Center was established by members of Estonian Methodist Church in 2001.
Children’s Center Tähetorn is situated in Tallinn at Kopli Street. Day care service is offered for children who are of basic school age. There are approximately 30 children receiving the service. They can learn, eat, engage in recreational activities and play in Children’s Center. Children are taught skills necessary for their everyday life, taking responsibility, cleaning up after themselves, communication skills and healthy lifestyles. Children are taken to excursions, camps are organized for them and festive days are celebrated together. The motto of Children’s Center is: “Every child needs care.”
There are four employees and many volunteers working at Children’s Center. Its cooperation partners are Tallinn Social Welfare and Health Care Department, Northern Tallinn Administration; child welfare workers and youth workers; the department of social work in Tallinn University; schools, hospitals, police and many other.
