The Annual Conference of the UMC in Estonia in 2004 decided to establish the Board of Education and the first membership of the board was elected. The board members today are Thea Kant, Lii Lilleoja, Tarmo Lilleoja, Maire Ivanova, Irina Ivanova and Inna Välja.

The aim of the Board of Education is to train lay workers, promote lifelong lear­ning in congregations and provide Christian training materials. One of the most important projects initiated by the board was in-service training of pastors and lay persons in coope ration with the Baltic Methodist Theological Seminary and the Ordination Committee of the UMC in Estonia in 2006.

In 2004–2009 the Board of Education is coordinating a 5-year project on the develop- ment of Christian education and discipleship in the UMC in Estonia.

The Board of Education also conducts annual training days. The following topics have been addressed: in 2004 Seminar-Conferen ce Church in Small Groups; in 2005 Trai- ning-Seminar of Small Group Leaders; 23–25 March 2006 Christian Education Conference of the UMC in Northern Europe Christian Lifelong Learning Today; 24 March 2007 Seminar-Conference Christian Family during Changes in Society.

The board has published several study materials, i.e. material on 37-week confirmation class for young people, which is also available on CD (2004); Lifelong Learning in Christian Context by Barbara Bruce (2005); Disciple’s Bible Course in Estonian and Russian (2007).

The Board of Education offers help to congregations in organizing training days, i.e. conducting sample lessons (Alfa, Confirmation classes, Disciple’s Bible Course), adult training and training of group leaders. The activities of the Board of Education of the UMC in Estonia have been supported by the Fund Mission Europe, British National Appointments Fund, General Board of Global Ministries and Christian Educators Fellowship.
